Manama: Qatar plans to re-merge the ministries of labour and social affairs, 27 months after they were split.
Under the proposal, the ministry will have one undersecretary and three assistant undersecretaries, Al Sharaq newspaper reported, quoting sources it did not name.
The 11 directorates in both ministries will be merged to reduce their number, but no staff will be transferred, the paper said.
No reason was given for the decision.
The Gulf Cooperation Council countries usually house their labour and social affairs under one portfolio. However, Bahrain split up its labour and social affairs ministries in 2005, a move that allowed Fatima Al Beloushi to become the second woman minister in the country's history after she was given the social development portfolio.
Nada Haffadh became the first woman minister after she was put in charge of the health sector in 2004.
