Manama: Qatar has launched the first mobile library of the Children’s Cultural Centre with the theme “Colour Your Life With Reading”.

Culture, Arts and Heritage Minister Hamad Al Kuwari said the project was a creative step to help instill the habit of reading in children.

Al Kuwari told reporters on the sideline of the project launch that the ministry was keen on supporting projects that would develop abilities and talents, but singled out reading as a development of great value that the community must instill in children at an early age to help build a generation of enlightened intellectuals.

The first mobile library in the country will upgrade reading from being just a hobby to a daily habit among children, the minister said.

The mobile library moves towards children wherever they are and offers them a wide range of books and stories to promote their reading and thinking capabilities, he said.

The library project includes publishing stories written by children and promoting them within the community.

According to the minister, the significance of the project will be obvious when children grow up and see that their creative work had reached the community.

The continuation of such projects will allow Qatar to have thousands of writers whose innovations were started when they were young, the minister was quoted saying on Sunday by the Qatar News Agency.

Hind Al Muftah, director-general of the Children’s Cultural Centre, said that the basis for the mobile library was equipping a bus to form a non-traditional image of a library in the mind of the child and to create an interactive reading pattern associated with enjoyment and fun.
