Manama: More than 300 people were treated mostly for stomach ailments on the first day of Eid, a spokesperson for the emergency department at Hamad Medical Corporation in Qatar said.

Other cases the emergency department received on the first day of Eid were related to heart attacks, flu, and minor accidents, Qatari daily The Peninsula reported.

Most of the cases were referred to the emergency section between 6am and 2pm. No serious injuries or deaths were reported, however five minor road accident cases were referred to the hospital.

Most of the patients with stomach ailments had fasted during the 30 days of Ramadan, and had begun to suffer indigestion and irritable bowel syndrome when they consumed heavy food on the first day of Eid, the medics said.

Doctors said they were prepared for such minor emergencies because they normally received dozens of patients with upset stomachs and indigestion just after Ramadan each year.

Doctors said people who fasted during Ramadan should rely on liquid and fibrous diets on the first day of Eid to help their digestive system return to normal.
