Muscat: Omantel has joined with the United Nations Children Fund (Unicef) in an effort to protect the children of Oman from misuse of the internet.
The leading telecommunications company in Oman has signed an agreement with Unicef to support their activities in Oman.
The plan includes the organisation of a workshop on cyber protection in relation to children. The company will also provide financial assistance to the UN body.
"Both of us share the same goal of helping the active development of children in an environment where they are protected, are able to exercise their rights in a proper manner and can grow to be responsible citizens of tomorrow," said Michael Horup, General Manager strategic marketing and branding at Omantel.
"Omantel is proud to have a partnership with Unicef and reinforce our commitment to supporting initiatives and organisations that actively help the development of children in the sultanate," he added.
The workshop on cyber protection is likely to be held next year.
Omantel in turn will help Unicef to promote a number of campaigns aimed at sending children text messages or e-mail notifications, to help spread awareness of these campaigns across the country amongst the young people.
"The workshop will enable Omantel to showcase what they are doing to protect youngsters from the misuse of the internet," the Unicef Oman representative Laila Gad said.
