Muscat: The Royal Oman Police (ROP) have arrested a murder suspect who, according to police reports, has confessed to his crime.

The suspect, identified by the initials  A.S.T, is reported to have strangled his compatriot in what is believed to be a brawl during a drunken state.

The murder took place outside a bar in Wadi Kabir district of Muscat last month.

On December 17, ROP was informed that a man was lying unconscious near a gorge in Wadi Kabir.

The police confirmed that it was a case of murder as signs of strangulation, blood stains on the body and victim’s struggle were evident.

The accused was nailed down by the criminal investigation department after a thorough probe.

The accused, when confronted with evidence by police, admitted that he had exchanged blows with the victim and overpowered him. He then reportedly strangled the victim to death and fled.

The suspect has been transferred to the Public Prosecution for trial.
