Muscat: A housemaid was sentenced to life for the murder of a two-month-old infant girl in Oman’s eastern region, the Royal Oman Police announced on Tuesday.
Prosecutors said the defendant, angry at her employers for burdening her with household work, drowned the infant in a water tank at an empty farmhouse nearby.
The incident came to light when the baby’s parents alerted police about their infant having gone missing from her room while they had briefly left the house.
When questioned, the maid admitted to having taken the baby to the deserted farmhouse and throwing her into the water tank.
Police who rushed to the farmhouse found the baby dead in the water. A post-mortem later revealed that the baby had died as a result of drowning.
A court found the maid guilty of premeditated murder and sentenced her to life in prison, the police report said, without identifying the nationalities of either the convicted domestic or her employers.
