Muscat: A young Omani has been arrested by police on the charges of theft and vandalising vehicle in Muttrah area of Muscat. The 27-year-old Omani accused, identified only as S. H. M. by the Royal Oman Police (ROP), has reportedly confessed to his crime when confronted with the evidence, according to a press release from ROP Tuesday.

The suspect allegedly stole cash and an ATM card after breaking into a car parked in the Muttrah area and then withdrew 600 Omani riyals using the stolen ATM card. The accused has been charged and sent to Public Prosecution for further action.

The ROP has urged people to avoid leaving cash and valuables in a visible place in the vehicle in order to avoid thefts.

The police have also advised residents not to keep their PIN with the ATM cards.

Meanwhile, the ROP in Dhofar have arrested two Yemeni nationals for allegedly smuggling narcotics. The suspects were found with a huge bundle of qat and a pistol.
Qat is a rubbery green leaf with amphetamine-like qualities.
