Muscat: Royal Oman Police (ROP) have warned against firing guns during Eid celebrations, which is likely to fall on Friday in Oman.
"Firing of personal guns is still persistent despite several warnings against it by the police,” said Sergeant Hamoud Al Zaidi from the ROP’s Public Relations Department.
“There are many ways to celebrate, firing guns in the air is certainly not an option,” he said, adding that violators would be severely punished under the provision of the law.
He warned people that such act could harm an individual and damage property.
Al Zaidi urged citizens to heed ROP advise on use of firearms to avoid legal accountability.
It is very common, especially in interior villages, for citizens to dance with joy and fire their personal guns while celebrating occasions such as Eid or National Day.
