Muscat: A thief, who is wanted internationally, has been caught by the Royal Oman Police (ROP) after stealing stole a quantity of gold and diamonds from a house in Muscat.

“The accused was caught while trying to sell stolen goods to another citizen,” Hamoud Al Zaidi, a spokesperson for the ROP’s Public Relations Department said.

He added that the man accused of the crime is of Asian descent and was arrested for selling stolen gold and diamonds, the value of which has not been revealed.

During his interrogation at the ROP’s Department of Investigation, police discovered that the man, whose nationality has also yet to be revealed, was wanted for several cases of theft in another country.

Meanwhile, the police also stopped an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of morphine capsules into the country.

“The police were tipped off that an Omani citizen was expecting to receive drugs from a trafficker from an African country,” a police spokesperson said.

The man was attempting to carry 120 capsules of morphine into Oman in a car, which was stopped at the border and searched by the police. The suspect was taken into custody and an investigation into the matter is on-going.
