Muscat: The Indian Embassy and Art Select have given leading male and female artists an opportunity to express the strength of their gender through paintings at At Eye Level, a themed exhibition, to be held at the embassy auditorium on Monday and Tuesday.
Seventeen artists from the Middle East, Indian subcontinent and Russia will showcase their art, communicating their individual and combined qualities to viewers, addressing a variety of themes where gender is pertinent, such as society, culture, politics and religion.
Visitors to the show can look forward to the eclectic, colourful works of Daria Bizenskaya, a Russian artist based in Abu Dhabi, showcased alongside Indian masters such as Amiya Bhattacharya, Paritosh Sen and Sachindranath Jha. Leena Alasfoor, a popular Omani artist, will also be displaying her works.
"At Eye Level places works by male and female artists side by side to show you the individual and joint powers of both genders that add enormous quality to the lives we all lead today," said Kanika Subberwal, Director of Art Select.
"This exhibition is not about polarisation, but about a simple side-by-side placement. Each of the artists, male as well as female, treats a different subject in his/her work and depicts it in a different way, creating an autonomous visual world," she added.
The exhibition is being held under the auspices of the embassy. Anil Wadhwa, Indian Ambassador to Oman, will inaugurate the exhibition.
"We are delighted to be such an integral part of yet another exhibition that gives artists from our great nation and this remarkable region a shared platform to showcase their creativity," said Wadhwa.
"Art Select is renowned for bringing to the Sultanate exemplary artworks that appeal to a variety of tastes and this collection is no exception," Wadhwa said.
