Muscat: A motorbike gang that went on a robbery spree in Seeb wilayat was busted, according to a press release from the Royal Oman Police (ROP)
The Criminal Investigations Department in Muscat arrested 11 people on charges of theft, robbery, aggression against members of the public and damaging vehicles in the Mawaleh, Khoudh and Hail suburbs.
“The suspects had formed a gang that had made a daily routine of robbing unsuspecting residents in Seeb,” a spokesperson for the ROP’s Public Relations Department said.
“The gang members would go on motorbikes and attack their victims, beat them up and rob them whatever cash, mobile phone, jewellery, bags etc,” he added
He said that these alleged the gang also damaged vehicles parked outside residences and mosques, especially when worshippers attended Friday prayers.
The accused, according to the police spokesman, confessed to 24 acts of robbery and 15 instances of automobile sabotage. They were transferred to the Public Prosecution in preparation for trial before the court.
Suspected drug smugglers held
Meanwhile, the ROP also arrested four Pakistani nationals on charges of promoting narcotics and psychotropic substances in Barka.
The accused were found to be in possession of 141 capsules of heroin when the arrests were made.
In another case, the ROP’s Customs Department have arrested a man at the Hafait border checkpoint for trying to smuggle in counterfeit cigarettes.
The customs officers discovered the contraband hidden carefully in a secret compartment below the body of a transport vehicle and tightly sealed with a plastic sheet.
