Muscat: Five people, including a family of four, were killed in road accidents over the weekend in Oman, according to the Royal Oman Police.

A woman lost control of her saloon car and rammed into a parked truck at a high speed in Al Jifnain area of Samayil town in north of Oman.

The woman, her son and two daughters were killed on the spot. The family was travelling from Muscat to Sumayil.

The Civil Defence squad had to extricate the bodies before taking them to the Armed Forces Hospital.

"A witness who was driving just behind the doomed vehicle said the power of the impact sent parts of the bodies of the victims flying in the air," a ROP spokesperson said.

In Taqah, An Asian was killed on the spot when a bus ferrying 40 workers to Salalah skidded on wet roads and hit the mountain side before veering towards the valley and plunging into a ravine.

According to sources at the Sultan Qaboos Hospital in Salalah, two inured workers were still in critical condition.

The injured were taken to a hospital.
