Muscat: An art exhibition by 20 Omani artists, which features calligraphy illustrating some of the speeches made by the Sultan Qaboos Bin Saeed, has opened in Muscat.
The four-day event, which has 33 calligraphy works is titled ‘Synopsis of the Royal speech’.
Organised by the Wave Muscat project, in collaboration with the Omani Society for Fine Arts, it was formally opened by Sayyid Shihab Bin Tariq Al Said, Advisor of the Sultan, at The Wave, Muscat on Monday evening.
The exhibition includes seven rock pieces, on which words by Sultan Qaboos, taken from speeches made between1970 to 2009, have been inscribed.
Sultan Qaboos is considered responsible for transforming Oman during his lifetime and the art works will honour his work. They will later be placed at the entrances of some of the wilayats in the country.
Sayyid Shihab praised those who organised the exhibition for coming up with the idea. He pointed out that it coincides with the beginning of the Sultanate's celebration of the 40th National Day anniversary. “It also reflects the creativity of the Omani calligraphers who have used various types of calligraphy to write the words of His Majesty the Sultan,” he said.
After touring the exhibition, Sayyid Shihab thanked the Omani leader for encouraging the work of artists and providing the Omani Society for Fine Arts with much needed resources.
He also thanked those in charge of the society and wished the artists themselves every success.
