Manama: Kuwait's traffic authorities impounded 587 vehicles in operations launched by the police over the two-day weekend.
According to the statistics by the traffic directorate, the police booked 7,696 drivers for violating the traffic code in the country's six governorates, a local Arabic daily reported.
The Hawalli Governorate led with 2,053 violations, followed by the Capital Governorate with 1,869 traffic offences.
Al Farawniya had 954 violations, Al Ahmadi 831, Al Jahra 648, and Mubarak Al Kabeer 61.
Kuwaiti authorities have been pushing for better discipline on the road as traffic accident figures have reached high levels.
"We urge all drivers to exercise the highest levels of caution and to comply with all road signals and good traffic behaviour," a security media official said. "The utmost care should be taken to ensure that lives are not harmed and that private and public properties are preserved."
