Manama: A senior Kuwaiti customs official has reaffirmed his country's commitment to the Arab League's boycott of Israel.

"The State of Kuwait is keen on regular participation in the meetings of the Arab League's Central Boycott Office," Walid Khalid Al Sabej, head of Kuwait's Customs Southern Ports Directorate, said.

"The office plays a crucial role in curbing Israel's attempts to infiltrate its products into Arab countries," said Al Sabej, who is also the general supervisor of the Kuwait General Administration of Customs' (KGAC) boycott office.

He made the statement at the 85th meeting of the liaison officers of the national branches of the Central Boycott Office in Damascus, Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) reported.

Representatives of 15 of the Arab League's 21 member states attended the event to confirm the boycott "as an effective weapon in the face of the aggressive policies and crimes systematically pursued by the Jewish state against the Palestinian people”.

"The KGAC spares no effort in countering the Israeli product-smuggling bids," he said, emphasising the importance of expanding the economic boycott of Israel.

"In recent times, Israel has escalated its aggressions and atrocities against the Palestinian people and its violations of the sanctities of the Islamic sites in Palestine.”

There were 12 topics to be discussed at the meeting, the most important of which was the ban on companies that deal with Israel, he said.

"The topics also include exploring possible ways of tightening the boycott, as well as ultimatums for those who trade with Israel."

Opening the gathering, Mohammad Subeih, the Arab League's Assistant Secretary General, said every Arab and Muslim person must boycott Israeli products and must remain vigilant with regard to Israel's attempts to smuggle its products into Arab and Muslim countries.

"The current gathering aims to send a crucial message; it's a peaceful message at a time when the Palestinian people are undergoing hardships due to the Israelis' fascist policies," he said.

"Israel is moving from the right to the extreme right," Subeih added, before criticizing Europe for remaining silent at the ongoing “horrible fascist atrocities" against the Palestinian people.
