Manama: Kuwait is planning to hire prayer leaders and muezzins (who calls the faithful to prayer five times a day) mainly from Morocco and Egypt, two countries with strong Islamic traditions.
Al Qabas newspaper said that the Kuwaiti religious authorities wanted to bring in 100 people to help meet requirements and that the focus would be on Arab countries, mainly Morocco and Egypt.
The civil service bureau has already been told to decide on salaries and to help find accommodation for those who will pass the test to be administered by a Kuwait-based jury, the paper said.
Kuwait has more than 1,000 mosques.
