Manama: Muharraq, long seen the bastion of politics in modern Bahrain, had trouble deciding who will represent it in the lower chamber and municipal councils in 2010 – 2014.

Six of the eight constituencies in the Governorate of Muharraq have not elected who will represent them in the municipal council while four constituencies did not give any parliamentary candidate the needed majority to secure seats in the lower chamber.

By contrast, voters in the Northern Governorate will have to cast their ballots again next Saturday only in one constituency.

No parliamentary or municipal hopeful in the sixth constituency secured the required 50 per cent of the vote to be elected.

Mohammad Al Amadi and Jamal Dawood will compete for the parliamentary seat while Khalid Al Kaabi and Jassem Hijris will be in the run-off for the municipality council membership.

The other eight lawmakers and municipal councilors in the governorate secured their seats in the first round on Saturday.
