Manama: Bahrain's foreign ministry has urged the British government to protect its embassy after two people climbed onto its roof through a neighbouring building.
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain urges the UK government to undertake full legal responsibility of providing the necessary protection to the Embassy building and diplomats and members of staff, according to the relevant diplomatic immunities in the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961," the ministry said in a statement late on Monday.
According to the ministry, the two people climbed on the roof at around 1:30pm on Monday afternoon London time.
"The embassy has notified the British Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) of the incident, and asked officials to deal with the situation immediately, take necessary and fast action required in such cases, bring down the terrorists from the roof of the building and enforce the law proceedings against them," the ministry said.
A ministry official said that the incident did not and would not affect the embassy's daily work routine.
