Dubai: Bahrain’s Human Rights Affairs Minister Dr Salah Ali received a delegation from Amnesty International on Sunday, led by its deputy director for Middle East and North Africa programme Hassiba Hadj Sahraoui, Gulf Daily News reported.

Dr Ali said it was part of a series of meetings with international organisations to intensify contacts with global human rights organisations to project the real image of Bahrain and keep them informed about the reality of what is happening, as well as its human rights strides.

He said that efforts are continuing in the kingdom to consolidate a legislative framework for human rights and promote its culture in the Bahraini society.

The minister asserted that Amnesty International is always welcome in Bahrain, adding that the kingdom respects all human rights guests who come to conduct field visits.

He also described all the projects the kingdom had initiated to promote human rights.

Parliament human rights committee chairman MP Abdul Hakim Al Shammari and National Security Agency Inspector General Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Rumaihi also received the delegation separately. Al Rumaihi stressed the importance of respecting human rights, which is one of the priorities of his office.

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) secretary general Dr Ahmad Abdullah Farhan yesterday received a delegation from the UK-based Bingham Centre for the Rule of the Law, including director for education and training Naina Patel and lawyers Ivan Hare and William Metcalfe.
