Manama: A Lebanese man wanted by Scotland Yard for his link with the murder of a Canadian woman found in a suitcase in London 11 years ago was extradited by Bahrain, the interior ministry said.
Yousuf Ahmad Wahid was arrested last month in Bahrain, when he entered on a genuine Lebanese passport, but under the fake name of Ebrahim Fawzi Hadid.
The ministry said the 41-year-old, who was working at a private company, was arrested following a three-month investigation in Bahrain by police acting on information from Scotland Yard.
Manama and London do not have a formal extradition agreement, prompting his case to be referred to the public prosecution and to a local court.
According to the charges from London, the repeatedly-stabbed body of his victim, 28-year-old Moroccan-born Canadian citizen Fatima Kama was found inside a black suitcase abandoned on the third floor of a car park at London's Heathrow Airport on July 17, 1999.
The British police said the motive for the murder could have been the theft of Fatima's money and jewellery, which have never been recovered.
