Muscat Sultan Qaboos Bin Saeed has ordered setting up of The College of National Defence and created the Public Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulance.
The Omani leader issued separate royal decrees last week setting up the two new entities. The College of National Defence, according to the royal order, will come under the Ministry of Defence with its headquarters in Bait Al Falaj Camp at Muscat.
The order states that the College of National Defence will have financial and administrative independence and will be linked academically to the Sultan Qaboos University.
Major General Salim Bin Mussalam Bin Ali Qattan, who was until now Assistant Inspector General of Police and Customs, has been named as the Commandant of the College of National Defence
Brigadier Abdullah Bin Ali Bin Hamad Al Harthy has been promoted to the rank of Major General and named as the Chairman of the Public Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulance, which will be an independent entity affiliated to the Royal Oman police (ROP).
The Omani leader promoted Brigadier Mattar Bin Salim Bin Rashid Al Beloushi to the rank of Major General and appointed as the new Commander of the Royal Army of Oman. Brigadier Sulaiman Bin Mohammad Bin Hamad Al Harthy has been promoted to the rank of Major General and appointed as the new Assistant Inspector General of Police and Customs for Administrative and Financial Affairs. Brigadier Hamad Bin Sulaiman Bin Mubarak Al Hatimi is the new Assistant Inspector General of Police and Customs for Operations with a rank of Major General.
