Dubai: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on Sunday expressed his heartfelt condolences to the parents of Fatima Gholam, the 17-year-old student from Algeria who died in an accident while on her way to Algiers to partake in the Arab Reading Challenge (ARC) finals.

Shaikh Mohammad applauded Fatima’s determination as she travelled 18 hours by car to reach the capital Algiers before a tragic accident killed her. “Algeria is the land of knowledge… and of martyrs of knowledge,” Shaikh Mohammad said.

Paying tribute to such a determined young seeker of knowledge, Shaikh Mohammad ordered the establishment of 10 libraries bearing the name of Fatima Gholam; a name that forever will be remembered as a martyr of knowledge.

Shaikh Mohammad also praised the high level of participation in the Arab Reading Challenge from Algeria, where more than 2.2 million students have registered for the challenge.
