Shaikh Mohammad was briefed by Sultan Ahmad Al Jaber, Minister of State and Chairman of Masdar, about Masdar’s investment projects in the field of generating solar and wind energy in the UAE and a number of friendly countries.
Shaikh Mohammad then signed his name on the e-register designated for dignitaries who visit Masdar. He then visited Masdar Institute of Science and Technology, where he was briefed on the institute’s future plans and current research and studies being carried out by Emirati and foreign employees.
Shaikh Mohammad was accompanied by Shaikh Ahmad Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation and Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group, Khalifa Saeed Sulaiman, Director-General of the Department of Protocol in Dubai, and other officials.
According to a statement issued by Irena, Adnan Z. Amin, Director General of Irena, received Shaikh Mohammad and Dr Sultan Al Jaber, UAE Minister of State and Chairman of Masdar at the Agency’s headquarters in Abu Dhabi.
Shaikh Mohammed and Amin exchanged views on the latest renewable energy developments in Dubai and the UAE, including Dubai’s Clean Energy Strategy 2050, and the third phase of the Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, which recently received global attention for its record-low solar power cost.
Amin provided an overview of Irena’s journey over the last five years to become the global voice for renewable energy as Shaikh Mohammad toured the Agency. Amin expressed gratitude to the UAE for contributing to the Agency’s success, calling it a reflection of the UAE’s renewable energy leadership.
“The UAE has become a trendsetter in renewable energy deployment and Dubai has played a key role in making that happen, under the leadership of Shaikh Mohammad,” said Amin.
He added: “The UAE recognises that an essential component for the further development of renewable energy will be the empowerment of government agencies to take a holistic approach to energy regulation.”
