Could Iron Mike be helping Pacman lobby for a last fight location?
Dubai: Legendary American boxer Mike Tyson arrived in Dubai on Monday morning to support Filipino fighter Manny Pacquiao in his bid to stage his last fight in the emirate, according to a source.
Pacquiao arrives in Dubai on Monday night ahead of Friday’s Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Philippine Cup clash between the side he owns, plays for and coaches, Mahindra Enforcers and Alaska Aces at Al Wasl Club.
But on the sidelines of this visit, it is believed Pacman might also be involved in some high level meetings with local sports bodies to discuss the prospect of staging his last fight in Dubai.
The 36-year-old lost his most recent fight against America’s Floyd Mayweather Junior by unanimous decision in May and is out until March with a shoulder injury.
However, he is currently looking into the prospect of a final fight sometime in April before hanging up his gloves to pursue his political career where he is running for senator in the Philippines general election in May.
“Yes he [Mike Tyson] is in Dubai maybe to support Manny for his last fight to be staged in Dubai,” a source close to Pacquiao’s camp told Gulf News. “More celebrities are expected to come,” he added.
A local organiser of the PBA matches in Dubai this weekend also posted on Facebook.com: “Mike Tyson just arrived in Dubai this morning. Is it possible that we could see him on November 6 at Al Wasl Sports Club? Watch.”
