Ras Al Khaimah: Two Egyptian men have been sentenced to six months in jail to be followed by deportation for trying to cheat a laundry owner out of Dh50,000.
The Ras Al Khaimah Criminal Court ruled that the third accused in the case was not guilty and ordered for him to be released.
A judiciary official at RAK court told Gulf News on Wednesday that the two Egyptians, both in their twenties, planned to cheat a laundry owner where one of them was working. The two agreed to divide the money equally between themselves.
The laundry worker had arranged with a friend, who was working at a government department, to cheat the owner of the laundry shop into thinking a Dh50,000 fine had been imposed on the shop. They asked the owner to prepare the money in cash pretending that they would pay it to the government department.
“Suspecting foul play, the owner of the laundry told his worker that he was ready to pay the fine and at the same time he reported the matter to the police. The police, in turn, set a trap and arrested to two accused,” the official said.
The two men were arrested while taking the money.
The third, a government employee at the same department, whose name was mentioned by the two as the one who masterminded the operation, proved to the court that he was out of the country on the time the incident took place and thus he has no connection with the convicts.
