Dubai: Tech heads, geeks and gadget freaks around the globe have hardly been able to contain their excitement this week with the much-anticipated release of Apple’s iPad2.
London, eat your heart out
We may not yet have the iPad2 in Dubai. But we have plenty of other great gadgets to keep us occupied.

- Chinese gadget items for sale are displayed in a shop at the Dragon Mart.
But London, eat your heart out.
Here in Dubai, we have a great gadget market of our own.
Dragon Mart sells everything electronic under the sun and yesterday (Wednesday) Gulf News went in search of the latest iPad and iPhone - and we found them.
As one nice lady behind the counter of an electronics shop told us, she did indeed have the new iPad.
It was, however, the “Chinese model,” she said.
We found plenty of iPhones too – but only the iPhone4. We’d heard the “iPhone5” was available at Dragon Mart, but they must have all sold out.
You know what else we found? A mobile phone in the shape of a wrist watch.
So, Apple. Take that.
Shopping around Dragon Mart the latest “iPad” was going to cost anywhere between Dh320 and Dh380.
It looked like it had all the right bells and whistles, too.
But should anything go wrong, don’t come back, I was told. Because at that price, it didn’t include a warranty.
As for the official launch of the new iPad2, we’re yet to hear when it will be available in the UAE.
When it’s out, call me. On my mobile phone wrist watch, from Dragon Mart.
