The ride was smooth aboard flydubai's inaugural flight from Dubai to Muscat this week.

The new route is great news for travellers who wish to enjoy Oman's natural beauty and stay at one of the many elegant resorts such as the Shangri-La's Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa. The secluded resort is located 20 minutes from downtown Muscat on the bay (barr) and is set against a dramatic backdrop of rugged mountains along the Gulf of Oman.

"Oman has become a magnet for local, regional and international tourism, and there is a constant demand from UAE travellers to come and enjoy our natural beauty and attractions," said Mohammad Bin Sakhar Al Amri, Oman's under-secretary for civil aviation affairs.

Dubai's first low-cost airline was launched in March 2008 and offers flights to 13 destinations — Doha, Bahrain, Beirut, Amman, Alexandria, Damascus, Aleppo, Djibouti, Khartoum, Baku, Kathmandu, Muscat and Kuwait. Oman has seen a vast increase in visitors, who are attracted by Unesco World Heritage Sites, natural wadis and white beaches.
