For avid fans of Filipino telenovelas, the name Angeline Quinto will surely ring a bell. Quinto is the voice behind most of the theme songs on ABS-CBN network’s TV shows. But more than just singing theme songs, Quinto has evolved into a hugely-popular, singing sensation following her success in ‘Star Power: Search for the Next Female Pop Superstar’ last year. In fact, she is now dubbed a Pop Superstar and has even built her own loyal fan base affectionately called Birit-lovers because of their admiration for her vocal prowess.
The 22-year-old lass from Manila, who will be performing with three other former ABS-CBN singing champions in Abu Dhabi on November 9 at an event called Asap Pinoy Champs, says she is excited to perform for her ‘kababayans’ (compatriots).
“It will be my first time in the UAE. Our fans can expect a fun-filled and exciting show — lots of production numbers,” Quinto tells tabloid! ahead of the concert.
After the Abu Dhabi show, Quinto will also perform a series of concerts in the Philippines and abroad. Besides the concert circuit, the singer is also busy promoting her second album ‘Fall in Love Again’.
tabloid! caught up with the singer to know more about her life and career.
I’ve noticed that Gary V. and you are also singing most of the teleserye (telenovela) theme songs on ABS-CBN. How does it feel to be given such opportunity?
I’m humbled that ABS-CBN gave me the opportunity to sing the theme songs.
Among all the teleserye or movie theme songs you’ve done, which song is closest to your heart and why?
‘Kunin Mo Na Ang Lahat Sa Akin’ (Take everything away from me), it’s the theme song for the teleserye ‘Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin’ (I’ll Only Love You Once) because it stands out as a super hit among all my songs. I am also more closely identified with the song although it is just a revival. And the Budoy theme song ‘Saan Darating Ang Umaga’ (Where The Morning Comes). I cried while recording the song.
Besides music, what other art forms are you into?
I’m into acting as well.
After your movie with Coco Martin, any other upcoming movie or teleserye (telenovela) this year?
Nothing yet. I’m praying that I’ll have one soon.

John Lloyd Cruz, Sarah Geronimo and Cristine Reyes
If you were not a singer-actress, what would you be?
I’d still be a student and selling goods in our makeshift store in Sampaloc.
How did it feel when you finally met your biological mother?
I felt like a complete person.
During the ‘Star Magic Ball’, you were dating Erik Santos. Is that true? Is he still courting you? We heard that he gifted you a watch?
Erik and I are just friends.
Being one of the most popular singers of your generation, what keeps you grounded?
My humble beginnings.
