“The bow tie I have on is one of my favourites. One day we were sitting around sketching bow ties and I was doodling this one and managed to turn the print into a design.”

“I’m like Bruce Wayne,” Zubair Timol tells tabloid! as he welcomes us into his beautiful home at the Dubai Marina. “I have two lives, a lawyer by day and a designer by night.”

Timol started Velsvoir, a luxury brand specialising in bow ties, with his two brothers and has since been a common face in the fashion pages.

He counts David Beckham as his style idol and hoards magazines from his travels. An avid reader, he collects books on current affairs, culture and business.

For a new series in The Directory, Timol opened his closet to reveal a bit more than we already know.

I picked up the H&M suede shoes when I was in New York and I love anything from NYC...

It’s so unbelievably comfortable and dressy so it’s ideal for long hours on your feet socialising.”

The bow tie I have on is one of my favourites...

One day we were sitting around sketching bow ties and I was doodling this one and managed to turn the print into a design.

The blue and white striped shirt with three buttons on the collar...

I got it in a small shop in Central London called Diverso. The gentleman there takes your precise measurements and then the shirt is handmade for you in Italy. It’s a shirt that works for corporate and fun times.

I’m going to be cheesy here...

I love the Tom Ford glasses because my wife bought it.

An item I will never get rid of is a black blazer with rose detail....

I’ve worn it to many important events in Las Vegas, New York and London and I’ve created so many memories wearing it. Also its versatile – I can dress it up or down.

I love this Karl Lagerfeld jumper that I picked up in NY...

It was a business trip and I had a few hours to kill and my wife and I decided to go shopping. In spite of numerous visits to NY, I had never come across the store and when I did we bought everything in sight. I rarely wear knitwear but I loved this jumper because of what it means to fashion. Lagerfeld is an icon. The ‘Karl’ book I got in Milan.

My style mantra is ‘dress for the job you want not the one you have’.
