An iftar with a twist is on offer at the Story Rooftop Lounge. The lounge, based at the Holiday Inn Express, Internet City, opened last October and for its first iftar is offering a mix of Arabic and Peruvian food options — courtesy of its South American chefs (the venue normally has a full Peruvian street food menu.)

You can end your fast taking in spectacular views of Dubai as the airy lounge is on the top floor. It has a non-pretentious air, with artwork reminiscent of Spanish artist Joan Miro.

Ramadan drinks and dates are on the table and a bowl of warming lentil soup is brought to you.

The buffet has familiar iftar fare such as hummus, tabbouleh and moutabal and tender lamb kebabs but alongside these, there’s also a chance to try dishes such as quinoa salad, causa (a seasoned mashed potato terrine) cheese or beef empanadas and vegetable spring rolls.

The service is friendly and the low ceilings give the venue an intimate atmosphere. When you’ve had your fill of the savoury dishes, don’t forget to check out the dessert options.

There’s umm Ali alongside other treats such as passion fruit cheesecake, fruit skewers with chocolate sauce and apple crunch.

It’s not as lavish as some of the iftars in Dubai but is in keeping with its surroundings. There’s enough food so you’re not uncomfortably full, but it’s mainly bite-sized snacks as opposed to main meals.

If you’re looking for a good-value iftar without too much fuss, this could be the place for you.
