Dubai: The best thing about La Terrazza, the chic ground floor café cum restaurant at the Almas Tower in Jumeirah Lakes Towers is its massive sprawl, overlooking the lake. So for a quick bite or a lazy afternoon by a picturesque water body out in the sun, this could be the perfect hangout this winter with some really nice items on the platter for you.
There’s an array of soups, appetisers and insalatas – including an exotic Figs with Gorgonzola salad and a beef carpaccio, if not scallops or tartare salmon for sea-food lovers but you could, like me, jumpstart with one of their pizzas.
Made with nothing but just their signature sauce and grated mozzarella cheese, their authentic Italian thin crust Margarita La Terrazza (Dh52), topped with Rocca leaves and sliced parmesan, was indeed a nice way to start things off. It was the freshness of the dough - soft and well baked – that made this common pizza so very uncommon.
If you are dining Italian style, pastas surely can’t be far away and their Fettuccine Alfredo (Dh62), made with daily fresh pasta, turkey ham and chicken – and yet another all-time classic – was right up there. What made it creamier and richer in overall taste though was the sufficient presence of grana padano cheese, known for its grainy texture (hence the name in Italian) and said to be one of world’s first hard cheeses, almost 900 years old.
Their main course – comprising mostly meat and chicken – isn’t quite exhaustive but has all the essentials.
To keep things simple, I tried their chicken breast (Dh76), served with cream and asparagus. Somehow I felt it needed some more garnishing. Some essence of thyme or rosemary would have made it a perfect grill, maybe.
They also have an Arabic section in their menu by the way replete with all the regional favourites including meat samboseks and sheesh tawook. I tried their mixed grill – with delectable skewers of chicken, lamb and beef. For a meat-lover it is as good as it gets.
