For a mesmerising and enjoyable iftar, there are few places that can match the One and Only Royal Mirage. With the warmest of welcomes, you can’t help but be transported to another world with the beautiful, traditional decor that makes Tagine restaurant an oasis for the mind and soul. Everything about the restaurant’s intimate setting and attention to Arabic detail makes it a soothing escape from the daily grind.

For iftar, the restaurant offers a buffet packed with every type of starter, including various Arabic salads and delicious breads. But first, the waiters — all dressed like they stepped out of an old picture from a small North African town — serve Harira, , a heart-warming, delicious soup popular in the region, to all guests. We couldn’t help but have a second bowl of the comforting goodness.

While the salads are offered buffet-style, the main courses are brought to each table — which I find more sociable than having to leave the table every so often as the stomach is lured away with every whiff.

We were served a selection of tagine — fish, chicken and kofta — with couscous and vegetables. The restaurant changes the tagines daily during Ramadan, so check online for what is being served on a particular day.

Perfectly cooked and a delight to the senses, the kofta was a personal favourite of mine and the fish had a wonderful spice.

There is also a range of desserts featuring traditional Arabic and other classics. The kunafa was a favourite on our table.

What a beautiful dining experience, perfect for a friendly and cosy evening with loved ones, family and friends, or those who want to experience North African hospitality. I’ll definitely be back.
