Abu Dhabi: If you are not cut out for the Friday frenzy brunches, Indigo restaurant at Beach Rotana Abu Dhabi offers a perfect alternative.
As their catch line reads, ‘Saturday is the new Friday’ with Indigo’s all you can eat Indian brunch that lets you savour some great Indian food at your own pace.
In pleasant weather like this, there is no greater joy than munching on piping hot samosa (spiced potato stuffed pastry) or chicken momos (garlic flavoured steamed chicken mince dumplings).
Under the Small Bites category, you have the ‘not to be missed’ starters like the Amritsari fish tikka and vegetable pakora. The dishes are served in small quantities so that you can enjoy each one of them, and order more of what you like.
The sit down brunch has two more categories – Big Bites (mains) and Side Bites (rotis and rice).
Moving on to the Big Bites, you can enjoy a range of veg and non-veg curries. We tried the flavour-rich ‘Ghar ki Murgi’, an Indigo special chicken curry, and the lip-smackingly good Chingri Malai Curry, a mildly flavoured prawn curry tempered with mustard and coconut cream. Vegetarians also have enough choices in Kadai Paneer (cottage cheese), Aloo Gobi (cumin and ginger tempered potato curry) or Dal Curry (lentil).
The curries go very well with the fluffy naan (wheat bread), and also with the aromatic pulao and chicken or the veg biryani.
For my partner and me the highlight of the brunch was one of their Must Haves – Tandoori Aloo Paratha with 100 Mile ki Chai. Aloo paratha is naan stuffed with potato. But what makes this quintessential Indian bread so special is the Chai (tea) that you wash it down with. The chef tells us the tea available at the road side eateries in Northern India is called 100 Mile ki Chai because the extraordinarily strong flavours of the tea keep truck drivers awake in their long journey.
A few sips of tea accompanied by a sweet kulfi dessert and we were ready for a 100 mile ki drive.
