A contest for school children is about to stir up creativity and appreciation of Filipino culinary traditions.

On May 1, students of Philippine Schools Overseas, which has schools in 10 countries around the world, will compete in the final round of Lutu-lutuan Philippine Schools Overseas Culinary Competition.

Student groups from Dubai, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain and China will compete in the final round, with five teams competing in the High School category and four in the Grade School category.

The competition will be streamed live via the internet on www.cfo-pso.org.ph from 1pm to 7pm (5pm to 11pm in UAE).

"Participants may be from the farthest corners of the Middle East and China, but the aromas that are expected to come wafting through the kitchen shall be undeniably homegrown," said organisers at Mama Sita Foundation.

The contestants will be made to prepare a dish from scratch, using Mama Sita products. Mama Sita is a popular Philippine brand of ready-made sauces and seasonings.

The judges for the competition include Chef Vicky Rose Pacheco, COO and Executive Chef at Chateau 1771 Group of Restaurants, Philippine Daily Inquirer food writer Norma Chikiamco, Manila Bulletin journalist for Agriculture Zac Sarian, Appetite Magazine Editor-in-Chief Nina Daza Puyat, and Lyn Gamboa, Adobo Festival Convenor and President of the Negros Museum.
