Q How can I get the most out of my face mask?
Depending on what you're hoping to achieve with your face mask, there are a couple of tricks you can do to get the best results. The most important thing to do before applying a face mask is to exfoliate. This will help remove any dead skin cells, so anything that is put on your skin will be easily absorbed. If you're using your mask to combat specific skin problems - like a fruit enzyme or one that contains topical resins - then you can kickstart your regime by applying one every other day for the first week, before switching to twice a week. On particular problematic areas, you could even apply your mask and leave on overnight. With fruit enzyme based masks, double up with one on top of the other for a real blast to the skin. If you're using a clay or mud-based mask, it's a good idea to jump in the shower while you've got it on as the steam keeps your pores open to absorb the mask and the mud doesn't dry out. Try June Jacobs, Kerstian Florian or the Sisley mask ranges.
Q I am embarrassed to admit I have dandruff. What's the best way to get rid of it?
When it comes to dandruff, there's nothing to be embarrassed about. According to Dr Rene Rust, Head & Shoulders scientist, dandruff is a common problem that half of both women and men have to deal with. It's caused by the excess sebum produced by oil glands and a fungus that is commonly found on skin. If you are a person who has a reaction to either of these two factors, the skin on your scalp starts to reproduce faster than normal, and the excess sheds off to produce the flaky clumps we know as dandruff. Try the new Head & Shoulders Moisturising Scalp Care with Almond Oil, Dh8, which includes a HydraZinc formula to slow down the growth of the fungus, leaving you with a healthier scalp.
Q I really hate wearing foundation in the summer months but I'm self conscience of my skin. Is there anything that I can use?
Aside from tinted moisturisers (which I'm a huge fan of), I've recently discovered No Foundation Foundation by Perricone MD, Dh260. I don't like heavy liquid foundation, so this product is great for evening out skin tone but at the same time it keeps your skin looking very natural. You don't need a lot to get that dewy summer glow, and because it already contains an SPF30, you won't be overloading your skin with a moisturiser, SPF and foundation. Available at Harvey Nichols and Sephora.
Q My lips are often quite dry, but I really enjoy wearing colour rather than just using a lip balm. What can you recommend?
Thankfully lipproducts have moved on over the years and offer much more than just a coat of colour. Although lip glosses are great for plumping and adding shine to lips, you're better off choosing a lipstick. And again, although long-lasting lipsticks have their purpose, opting for a hydrating lipstick is best for this time of year. Try Shiseido Perfect Rouge Glowing Matte lipstick, Dh118, which has a smooth matte texture and plenty of moisturising oomph. A

Keep your face masks in the fridge, especially hydrating ones - they'll be extra cool and refreshing when you apply them.
