Enjoy a weekend of living the good life at The White House in Daylesford, Southern Australia. Image Credit: Supplied picture

If the super-cutesy Zooey Deschanel was to revamp a quaint little cottage in a stunning spa town in Southern Australia, we think that she would come up with something a little like this. From the outside it's an unassuming cottage, but as soon as you cross the threshold you'll see it's far from ordinary inside. With three bedrooms, each with a different feel, this self-catering guesthouse, is made special by the little touches such as the hand-painted wallpaper and one-off artworks and chandeliers.

With two bedrooms in the main house and one outside in the guesthouse, we think this is the perfect place to check into with a group of friends, where you can enjoy a weekend of living the good life with big meals cooked family-style in the homely kitchen and scoffed down around the impressive dining table.

While you're staying in Daylesford it would be criminal not to head to one of the local spas. Set near the Hepburn Springs, which has 65 natural mineral springs, you won't be short of somewhere to head for a nice relaxing soak and treatment. We'd recommend the Hepburn Bathhouse & Spa - it's been open for over a century and boasts a newly refurbished relaxation lounge, a salt therapy pool and a menu of treatments. We like the look of the 90-minute Oceanic Elements body wrap and scrub (hepburnbathhouse.com).

After a hard day of spa treatments and relaxed walks through Daylesford checking out the cute boutiques and art galleries, head home for even more R'n'R and recline in one of the well-stocked library's 1930s' antique club chairs with a vintage book in hand and a glass of something nearby. Bliss.

Inside info

The lovely Daylesford Lake is walking distance from the guest house. We recommend a picnic in the lake's park followed by a walk to the nearby Wombat Hill Botanical Gardens for a lovely day out.

Grand Central Oyster Bar And Restaurant, New York, USA
For a touch of Mad Men glamour, look no further than the Big Apple's Grand Central Oyster Bar. Actually situated in the city's bustling Grand Central Station, this ever-popular spot is the place to enjoy the freshest seafood in the city. The restaurant opened in 1913, and Mad Men fans will remember when Roger Sterling and Don Draper dined there and indulged in martinis and oysters in the show. We say follow their lead and order the same decadent duo.
