Huvafen Fushi, Maldives

The likes of George Clooney, Katie Holmes and Kate Moss have all given this heavenly retreat the celebrity seal of approval, and with a private beach, clear azure waters and deluxe bungalows with not one, but two private plunge pools, we can see why.

The stunning hotel reopened at the end of last month, after an extensive renovation, bringing it back up to all-star standards, so if you can afford to check into the Huvafen Fushi this year, you’ll find a brand-new collection of menus at the glamorous eateries and a fresh new colourful look in the rooms.

In true supermodel style, you can dine in the resort’s signature restaurant, Raw, which serves up exclusively raw cuisine, or you can chill at the new outdoor bar and lounge, which is situated over a stunning reef, guaranteeing breathtaking views day and night. The hotel is 100 per cent dedicated to your relaxation, so lie back on modular sofas and ottomans on the restaurants’ terraces, or get comfy in The Lair, which we rate as the most chilled-out spot in the (already very chill) hotel.

The special loungelike zone is totally dedicated to relaxation, and whether you do that with one of the best-selling books on offer, listening to tunes on the seemingly endless playlist, or watching one of the many DVDs, the chillout area in the heart of the island (which has super comfy seating) will guarantee an unwind.

When it comes to selecting your room, you’ll be spoilt for choice, as there’s a James Bond-worthy Ocean Pavilion, which has an indoor/outdoor infinity pool that’s divided by a stunning glass wall, and boasts luxe touches like a private cocktail bar and a Kenneth Cobonpue art installation called Little People. The most luxe option, however, is the Cube, a two-level, three-bedroom residence with uninterrupted views of the Indian Ocean, two semioutdoor bathrooms, a yoga pavilion and its own private pool. Meet you there?

Singapore Zoo, Singapore

Singapore’s animal fest has to be one of the best zoos in the world. There’s more or less every animal you could think of (there will be pandas joining in September!) and special experiences, too – we have our heart set on a jungle breakfast alongside the animals at Ah Meng Restaurant. Plus, if you happen to be lucky enough to be heading there in the next month and were born in August, you’ll get free entry. But if you’re not an August baby, entrance will set you back Dh72.
