ABU DHABI Accessibility and exclusivity seem to share the living space at the Eastern Mangrove Residences, the prime residential development along the 1.2 kilometre stretch of Abu Dhabi’s protected eastern mangrove district.

Located right on the E11 highway and managed by TDIC (Tourism Development and Investment Company), the residential property is a only few minutes from the capital’s nerve centre. Yet the ambience and lifestyle are akin to that of a holiday resort tucked away in a pristine land.

“It is like getting the best of both. You are minutes away from the city yet living in a haven of peace and tranquility,” said Canadian Robert Engeldrecht who moved to the Mangroves with his wife last August.

Set in elegant white, with lush green mangrove forests in the background, the residential block is made of six exclusive buildings that sit adjacent to the Eastern Mangroves Hotel & Spa by Anantara and the Eastern Mangroves Marina.

There are 48 luxury three-bedroom apartments on the west side of Anantara hotel, and cost from Dh320,000 to Dh340,000 in annual rents. Each apartment offers a private terrace from which residents can soak in the panoramic views of the mangroves and Abu Dhabi skyline. The building also has two four-bedroom penthouses that can set you back by a whopping Dh600,000.

Buildings on the eastern side contain one and two bedroom apartments. While the annual rent for a one bedroom hovers around Dh200,000, two bedrooms are available for around Dh260,000 to Dh290,000.

Engeldrecht, who works in the boating industry said after looking around a few other places, they decided on Eastern Mangroves because of the quality of construction of the property and the lifestyle.

Ideal property

“My wife Mary Ann’s office is just five minutes away. Also, we intend to buy a boat soon. So this place seemed ideal,” he said.

Kenneth Greer, an education adviser from Scotland, said he was impressed by the environmental value of the place.

“When I moved to Abu Dhabi eight months ago, I could not imagine mangroves and this expansive greenery in a desert country.”

“The lifestyle is unparalleled. I can watch boats lazing in the marina, and can step out of my door and have a good run along the corniche,” said Greer who lives in a one-bedroom flat.

Another great attraction of the property is the Eastern Mangroves Promenade – a retail and marina space featuring an wide range of restaurants like Peppermill, Carluccio’s, Boa Steakhouse and Johnny Rockets to name a few.

The Marina at the Mangroves can dock 40 yachts, and private companies offer various boating services including kayaking, abra water rides, dragon boats, donut boats and others.
