Three of Hollywood’s biggest names in television kicked-off a workshop series in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday night.

It is the first of three workshops about the ins and outs of the TV industry.

Organised by Twofour54 and America Abroad Media, Ben Silverman, Howard T Owens and Greg Daniels drew from their personal experiences to provide advice to the audience.

“Be persistent, no matter how many people say no to you,” said Daniels, a writer and producer best known for working on hit TV shows such as The Simpsons, The Office, Seinfeld and Saturday Night Live.

This was one of the focuses of the workshop, as they explained how they all still hear the words “no” or “it is not possible” on a regular basis but their key is to have faith.

The workshop began with them sharing stories of how they began their TV careers, with Silverman, writer and producer of shows such as Ugly Better, Who Wants to be a Millionaire? and The Biggest Loser, saying that he started out as an assistant.

Silverman encouraged those in the audience to get their feet in the door one way or another. All three repeated there is no job that is not good enough and that everyone has to start somewhere. What they have achieved and how far they have come was testament to how much one can achieve with hard work and persistence.

At the end of the hour-long session, the audience, which was a mix of actors, writers and producers, got the opportunity to ask for advice from the speakers.

The booked-out workshops will run every evening until Wednesday.
