Who’s in it? Katie Holmes, Josh Duhamel, Anna Paquin, Elijah Wood, Adam Brody, Malin Akerman

The plot Six years out of college, five friends head off to rural New York and reunite at the wedding of two of the former gang, with the nuptials and bash held over a long weekend in one of those stunning ocean-front mansions that everyone in movie-land seems to live in. Holmes stars as Laura, who is not only charged with the maid of honour role, but also has to come to terms with the fact that the groom, Tom (Duhamel) is the ex she never got over, and that he's set to wed her long-term frenemy, the super-competitive Lila (Paquin). Pretty soon, the gang - two married couples Tripler and Pete, and Jake and Weesie, along with Lila's brother Chip - are running around the grounds with their pants on their heads, swigging from high-percentage bottles, kissing one another's husbands and tearing holes in Lila's wedding dress, and Laura's slowly realising she's not over Tom and will never be over him and how, ten minutes before the wedding might be the best time to confront the bride with this fact.

What we liked Brat Pack fans will love, love, love this! And in fact, if The Romantics had used the St Elmo's Fire "They thought they could be friends forever" tagline, things wouldn't be amiss. Holmes is actually good for once and both Akerman and Paquin steal the show as the wild child and uptight bridezilla respectively.

What we didn't like Let's be honest, no bride in their right mind would choose their man's ex as the maid of honour, but once you get over that elephant in the room, you'll be OK.
