Patrick Stewart has heard whisperings that Quentin Tarantino is creating a new Star Trek film — and he wants in.

Stewart, who played the iconic Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek: Next Generation for seven years, said he wants a part in Tarantino’s upcoming project, which is in collaboration with JJ Abrams.

“I’ve recently heard whisperings that a certain person by the name of Quentin Tarantino might be looking at some Star Trek ideas. It seems really improbable, but there’s no director on earth — yes, I’d love to work with Steven Spielberg, of course I would, it’d be fantastic — but Tarantino is my hero,” said Stewart on Friday afternoon at the 14th Dubai International Film Festival (Diff). The acting icon was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award on the opening night of the festival on Wednesday.

“I so much want to be in one of his movies. If he were to take a Tarantino-esque view of Star Trek...” he added, trailing off to uproarious applause.

Quizzed on what advice he would have for Tarantino, Stewart said that with great directors, he tends to stay out of their way and just hope they will cast him. Tarantino — the ball is in your court.
