One of the best films at this year’s Dubai International Film Festival was made with a cast of relative unknowns, nearly never got done and has a star that constantly malfunctioned during the shooting.

It was also released in 1975, and, says its star, Richard Dreyfuss, that’s one of the biggest reasons to see it: Jaws, a film that inspires fear in most who see it, is a piece of filmmaking that is as fresh as ever.

“My only fear is that people see Jaws as an antique,” said Dreyfuss in an interview with tabloid! at Diff on Saturday.

“The fact is this is the only film I’m aware of in all of Hollywood history that is as effective 40 years after as it was on the day it released. It is brilliant, brilliant and you are as astoundingly frightened as if you never seen it.”

He will be hosting a free screening of Steven Spielberg’s shark-terror masterpiece at — where else — The Beach at JBR at 7.30pm on the same night.

“They keep telling me there’s no time for q&a. I will challenge the audience. Give me three questions that I’ve never heard. I will answer them gladly. I doubt it.”

Next up for Dreyfuss is a mini-series on Bernie Madoff, the charming Ponzi scheme architect who swindled people out of $50 billion (Dh183 billion). The trailer for the show, airing in February 2016, released on Friday.

“Any American company that wanted to make that story and didn’t hire me is an idiot,” he said.

“This guy succeeded only because people thought he was the most adorable thing in the world. They never though he was ripping them off.

“They needed someone that could be liked while being hated. Apparently that’s what I do for a living.”
