You’re not the only one keeping up with the Kardashians — so it Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor.
The Bollywood fashionista last month followed in the footsteps of Kim Kardashian by launching a portal into her life with the official Sonam Kapoor app, available for Android and iOS users; there had been over 10,000 downloads by this week.
In a social media video released prior the launch, Kapoor told her fans, “You guys have been hearing a lot about me from ... different sources: newspapers, magazines, your best friend’s sister, Pinky, the aunty ji across the street, the manicurist, the hairdresser, etc.”
“But now it’s time to hear about Sonam from Sonam,” she added.
Once you’ve created an account and signed in, the app is simple to navigate.
The menu displays the categories, based on Kapoor’s life.
The My Life option, like most social media app interfaces, lets you scroll through what Kapoor shares on her social media. With photographs, videos, gifs, it offers insight into her life, behind-the-scenes footage from her films and the actress’s daily musings — from munching cheese puffs with her sibling or a video with her dad, it’s all on there. Users can comment, like and connect with the actress using this option.
Another way to connect with the star is messaging her on Sonam Live!, allowing users to watch and interact with Kapoor in real time. The app sends a notification when she’s live. So far, she’s livestreamed videos of her launch, which are saved in Chronicles — an archive option that stores the daily updates on the app under various classifications: Movies, travel, tutorials, app exclusive info, events.
My Tribe is an option that lets users upload and share their favourite photographs of Kapoor and comment on them — much like Instagram. Fans can also use this portal to connect with fellow fans and use the Friends & Messages option to stay in touch and make friends.
Our favourite? The Style Mafia tab, which lets you in on Kapoor’s beauty secrets and style hacks. Her sister, stylist Rhea Kapoor, and Bollywood make-up artist Arti Nayar upload how they go about making Kapoor look her best. Kapoor herself uploads about the latest trends, DIY tricks and style tips that she finds interesting.
So far, Kapoor has posted, among other things, a clip of her father, actor Anil Kapoor, revealing what it is like to work with his daughter; a travel video by her on a trip to Austria; workout videos by her fitness instructor, Radhika Karle; and a tutorial by her make-up artist Namrata Soni.
