Vacations are a time when everyone wants to relax, laze around, eat what you want and have no routine. Vacations are great motivators as well: all of us work hard and exercise through the other months to lose weight or maintain our health so that we can go and indulge in whatever we want during the holidays. Indulgence is great but we must also keep in mind how we can manage it. Remember you must work hard, party harder, and work out the hardest!

Yoga is just the form of exercise that you can do when you are on the go. All that you require is a mat and a mat space. Here are a few postures that one can do on the go. They will take ten minutes of your day but will be a great help during your vacation to remain active and maintain yourself.

Note: Though these postures are easy to do and can be done by all at home, as with all exercises, it is advisable to consult a doctor before starting them.

1 Neck rotation

Most of our physical stress collects around the neck, leading to stiffness. Neck rotations ease these muscles, improve blood circulation and reduce stress. This can be repeated five times, clockwise and anti-clockwise.

2 Tiryaka Tadasana (the swaying palm tree pose)

This is a simple side stretch used to activate the lateral muscles of the body and improve upper-body movement. This posture needs to be repeated ten times each, alternating between the right and left sides.

Note: Keep your feet apart for better balance.

3 Utthita Bhujangasana(back bend pose)

This is a simple backward bend used to work the muscles of the lower back activating the spine. Supporting your lower back, repeat this posture ten times.

Note: Follow this pose with a forward bend as a contra pose.

Next week: More postures on the go.
