After spending most of its recent history in present-day or futuristic settings, Call of Duty is heading back to the era where it made its name: the Second World War.

Call of Duty: WWII is releasing on November 3, and on Wednesday night Acivision gave gamers their first taste of what to expect from the latest instalment in the series.

The “actual in-game footage” trailer shows snippets of an amphibious landing and beach assault, as well as gameplay sections which it’s pretty safe to assume are set in the French countryside and towns.

After the lukewarm response to the futuristic Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, here’s hoping this is a return to form for a series that has breathed new life in the first-person shooter genre twice already in its history.
