International research and collaboration represents a powerful force for peace and understanding, also giving hope to millions of patients around the world, said a senior UAE official here on Sunday.

Scientists need to enhance their work through dissemination of research findings, promotion of preventive strategies, and cooperation among countries and institutions, said Shaikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Education.

He said education of general public and appropriate training of physicians in the light of new findings could also further enhance the scientists? work.


Shaikh Nahyan was speaking at the inauguration of International Neuroscience Conference on Sunday at the InterContinental Resort in Al Ain.

The four-day conference has been discussing research strategies and clinical challenges in neuroscience.


Organised by UAE University?s Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS), the conference has attracted a number distinguished participants from the USA, and European and Australasian countries.


The International Brain Research Organisation (IBRO), International Neuropsychiatry Association (INA), and Collegium Internationale Neuro-Psychopharmacologicum (CINP) are also supporting the FMHS for the event.


International perspective


Shaikh Nahyan, who is also Chancellor of the UAE University, said the conference provides a true international perspective and incorporates many aspects of Neuroscience research.


He called upon the scientists: "By focusing on the best practices and the latest research findings, you not only guarantee a high degree of relevance for your sessions, but you also help us understand the enormous promise of your work in treating and preventing disease and illness."


The minister said UAE had a fast growing healthcare system. "We have set world standards of quality for our hospitals and clinics and support the cutting edge medical research and advances in the world," he added.


He said that neuroscience research offers great hope to millions of patients around the world.

"They look forward to discoveries of new approaches to treatment, rehabilitation, and prevention of various medical disorders."

Shaikh Nahyan also highlighted the need for effective frameworks to help in achieving goals and objectives on national and international levels.
