What is it?
Taiwanese company HTC's latest large-screen phone launched at the recently concluded Gitex: the Sensation XL.
What's special about it?
Well for starters, at 4.7 inches, this nicely designed device has one of the largest screens out there. There seems to be a market for phones like this and the fact that HTC has jumped into the fray means it must be getting serious.
Thanks to its association with Beats by Dr Dre, the Sensation XL seems to have been designed for those who have a lot of multimedia on their phones, be it music or movies. Beats by Dr Dre comes in the form of a complimentary in-ear headphone and software support for music.
And as always, it bears the hallmark of HTC in its beautifully designed hardware, which comes in black and white.
What are the specifications?
The Sensation XL's 4.7-incher screen comes with a 480x800 resolution and weighs 162.5 grams (with battery). Powered by the Android operating system, the phone comes with 16GB internal storage space. The 8-megapixel colour camera with autofocus and dual LED flash at the rear lets you take 720p HD videos, while the front holds a 1.3-megapixel fixed-focus camera.
Then there are all the niceties we've all come to expect in a smartphone: a gyro sensor, digital compass, proximity and ambient sensors, FM radio, 3.5mm jack and such like.
When is it available and for how much?
HTC said on launch day that the Sensation was available only a few days after its European debut, so I guess we should all feel special.
The company also launched a smaller Sensation XE with Beats by Dr Dre the same day at 4.3 inches and with different specifications.
The Sensation XL is available for Dh3,399 while the Sensation XE is available for Dh2,699 in 8GB and 16GB variations.
