Hush Burger House was one of the best-kept secrets in International City. One of its first few patrons, I had secretly hoped it would stay that way, but of course, it is impossible to keep great places a secret for long. I wrote a story about it on Gulf News, and then someone else wrote about it, and next thing you know, more people started checking out the place.

There are a lot of things I like about this place. I love the American country-style ambiance (the previous owner was fond of horses and had a ranch in Iran) and the friendly staff. They have also opened up to a bigger al fresco dining area, which is perfect when the weather is cooler.

The place is cozy and clean. I could stay here for hours, enjoying healthy and affordable fast food in a relaxed ambiance. And did I mention that there is free wifi?

My first love was their signature Rex Burger. Their patties are handmade from freshly ground Brazilian beef topped with crispy salami, fresh greens and melted cheddar cheese. If that’s not the best part, then let me tell you about the price. A Rex Burger with fries and a soft drink costs Dh24 (as of press time).

I also love their spaghetti, which I can’t seem to get enough of. If I can’t have it at the resto, I have it delivered to my home for free. For me, Hush Burger House will always be home away from home.
