Iftar at The Ritz-Carlton, DIFC

When it’s a lavish buffet featuring the usual iftar delicacies, there’s always the danger of your dining experience being reduced to a blur.

But the expansive menu at the Ritz Carlton in DIFC doesn’t fall into that familiar food trap. Though the usual suspects such as hot and cold mezze, salads and ouzi are for your taking, it’s the live cooking stations that score high on our cards.

The shwarma counter is a must-stop. The delicately spiced chicken wrapped in wafter-thin flat bread hits all the right notes. Another dish that won us over was fatteh. Whipped up in the same style as the Indian chaats such as papdi chaat, this Arabic delicacy has all things good in one bowl. Made from fried bread, chick peas, tahina and tempered with parsley, ghee, garlic and lime, it’s at once crunch, salty, spicy and nutty. Don’t be hard on yourself if you find yourself asking for a second helping.
