If you’ve eaten your fill of Nobu, Okku and Zuma, but still crave Japanese, you’ll be throwing your chopsticks up in glee at today’s food news. Two new spots are opening in Dubai, new outlets of Japanese favourites in London and Sao Paolo.

Ramusake is at the Hilton DoubleTree in Jumeirah Beach Residence (where you’ll also find the fab Maine Oyster Bar & Grill) and comes from London. The aim is to recreate an izakaya — or casual Japanese pub — where the focus is on sharing food to accompany drinks.

There’s a separate bar and lounge, while the dining area features a robata — or grill — counter. The owners say the design blends 1920s Tokyo with Blade Runner “using aged concrete, charred timber and oversized ‘Abacus’ custom light fixtures juxtaposed against neon lights”.

Dishes on the menu from Ramusake London include a tuna sashimi pizza with wasabi tobiko and truffle ponzu; and fried chicken kara-age sliders with kimchi mayo and pickles. It gets better: A dining terrace looking over the sea and the upcoming Dubai Eye is in the works.

If you’re looking for sushi with a Latin flavour, check out Mori, a brand brought to the UAE from Brazil (which, in fact, has a large Japanese population), due to open in Downtown Dubai next month. Here, we’re promised exactly what you’d expect from a Brazilian brand: “Larger than life fusion sushi and exotic flaming grill flavours”.

The restaurant merges traditional Japanese dishes with Latin flavour at a sushi bar and, yes, a robata grill.
